The Jhalak Book Prize, along with its counterpart, the Jhalak Children’s & YA Prize, recognizes works by writers of color published in the UK. Moreover, the Jhalak Children’s and YA Prize specifically highlights fantasy books with black protagonists aimed at young readers.
Winners of the Jhalak Book Prize receive £1000 and a unique artwork from artists selected for the annual Jhalak Art Residency. These prizes play a pivotal role in uplifting and honoring writers of color in Britain, fostering inclusivity and diversity in literature.
