Merikokeb Berhanu – A World Grows Within
Merikokeb Berhanu, an Ethiopian artist, presents her collection titled “A World Grows Within” at Addis Fine Art in London from November 9, 2023, to January 13, 2024.
Born in Addis Ababa in 1977, Merikokeb Berhanu pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Addis Ababa University, studying painting under Ethiopian modernist painters. She co-founded Nubia Studio in 2004 to elevate local artists’ visibility.
Merikokeb’s paintings, characterized by a blend of abstraction and recognizable forms, have garnered attention worldwide. She immigrated to Maryland, USA, in 2017, which influenced her work, introducing vibrant hues and new symbols.
Her art has been exhibited internationally, including prestigious venues like the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy, in 2022. Merikokeb’s Instagram offers a glimpse into her artistic journey and latest creations.
Merikokeb’s paintings are part of esteemed art collections, such as the Denver Art Museum and the Inhotim Museum in Brazil. Her upcoming exhibitions curated by Cecilia Alemani in New York and at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore showcase her growing recognition in the art world.
