The Africa Centre – Horn of Africa exhibition
The Africa Centre and Addis Fine Art have teamed up for a group exhibition. They aim to showcase and celebrate African artists from the Horn of Africa and its diaspora. The show includes ten painters who work in various styles, such as abstraction, collage, figuration, and pointillism.
In 2016, Rakeb Sile and Mesai Haileleul founded Addis Fine Art gallery. They created Ethiopia’s first white-cube gallery space for modern and contemporary art. Since then, the gallery has grown into one of Africa’s leading galleries. It has established a prominent international platform for black African artists and other African artists from the Horn of Africa.
In October 2021, the gallery expanded to new premises in London. The new two-storey space is located in the heart of Fitzrovia. The London gallery programme reflects Addis Fine Art’s commitment to gaining international exposure for African artists. Meanwhile, the Addis Ababa space continues to support emerging talent. It encourages critical engagement within the local market and fosters the growth of the art ecosystem on the continent.
The Africa Centre show features artists such as Addis Gezehagn, Amel Bashier, Ermias Kifleyesus, Girmachew Getnet, Nigatu Tsehay, Selome Muleta, Tadesse Mesfin, Tariku Shiferaw, and Tizta Berhanu. The exhibition underscores the gallery’s dedication to promoting black African artists and celebrating the diverse talents of African artists.
