French-Belgo-Congolese artist Tiffanie Delune (born 1988) debuts her first solo exhibition at Gallery 1957 in London. She presents a new collection of paintings and textiles titled The Geography of Feelings. Jennifer Higgie, who visited Delune’s studio in Montpellier over the summer, wrote a specially commissioned text to accompany the exhibition.
Recently, Delune moved her studio from Lisbon back to France. Her travels in the Democratic Republic of Congo inspire her work, especially photographs and sketches of medicinal plants and trees. Delune loves to experiment, blending dreams and fantasies to create a utopian world. Her art draws from spirituality, geometry, anatomy, animism, and astrology. She paints spiritual maps on canvas and large dreamscapes on linen.
In this new body of work, Delune shifts to bolder colors. She uses acrylics, oil pastels, spray paint, threads, and paper. She adds depth with pencils and glitter, balancing complexity with a light, playful touch. She seeks harmony between darkness and light, intellect and emotion, giving life and spirit to nature.
For The Geography of Feelings, Delune collaborates with composer Guilhem Tamisier (Bazartropicando) on two musical compositions. Each piece lasts 19 minutes. These soundscapes, filled with fragments and voices from her travels, invite the audience into an immersive experience. The music reflects the shapes, colors, and movements in her paintings.
This is Delune’s second exhibition with Gallery 1957. She previously held her debut show at Gallery 1957 in Accra in early 2023 and showcased her work at Art Basel Miami Beach 2023.
