The Boy With Wings
In The Boy With Wings, Tunde, an ordinary schoolboy sprouts wings, learns his alien heritage, and embarks on a galaxy-saving adventure. At Polka Theatre until Aug 16. Tickets: https://polkatheatre.com/event/the-boy-with-wings/
Tunde is 12. He’s scared of the dark. His back aches all the time. Then—bam!—he grows wings. That’s when things get wild. Turns out, his dad’s an alien warrior.
Next, a talking cat named Juba shows up, chatting in poetry like it’s totally normal. Luckily, Tunde’s got friends. Dev and Kylie have his back. They flip, jump, and sprint across the stage. They even battle it out in rap.
Meanwhile, the world around them shifts fast—bedroom, Earth, deep space. The set moves like magic.
This show’s based on Sir Lenny Henry’s book. The script comes from Arvind Ethan David. Daniel Bailey directs with energy and heart. The sound and music? Bold and full of life, thanks to Khalil Madovi. Gillian Tan’s lighting and video bring a cool, game-like feel. Gabrielle Nimo’s movement work keeps things moving. And Laura McEwen’s design adds colour, fun, and style.
Reviews love the laughs and imagination. They praise the pace and the cast. Grown-ups and kids leave grinning. It’s a wild ride from start to finish.
