STARS: An Afrofuturist Space Odyssey
Meet Mrs: an old lady who goes into outer space… in search of her own orgasm. STARS is a bold, joyful Afrofuturist play celebrating Black, Queer empowerment through space travel, pleasure, mythology, and feminist liberation. At Brixton House from June 5 to June 28. Tickets: https://brixtonhouse.co.uk/shows/stars/
Winner of the 2024 Offies ‘Best New Play’, it follows an old woman, Mrs, who travels into outer space in search of her lost orgasm. Blending African mythology, intersex and feminist themes, the show is performed by one woman with a live DJ, animated projections, and music from Sun Ra, Jamila Woods, and Floating Points. Both hilarious and moving, STARS is described as a “concept album on stage”—an experimental journey of touch, liberation, and reclaiming joy. A club night follows select shows.
