This summer, American artist Leonardo Drew transforms SLG’s main gallery with a new immersive installation. Known for dynamic sculptures, Drew explores the tension between order and chaos. He builds abstract works by hand, distressing materials to reflect life’s cycles of decay and renewal. He avoids found objects, choosing instead to shape raw materials through repetitive labor. His process is meditative and intense. At SLG, fragments of wood cover walls and floors, evoking natural disasters or “acts of God.” Drew titles works numerically, allowing viewers to interpret freely. His art invites deep reflection. He lives and works in Brooklyn and San Antonio.
