Going for Gold, tells the gripping story of Frankie Lucas, a young Black boxer in 1970s London.
The play follows Frankie’s journey as he wins the National ABA middleweight title—twice. He chases his dream of sporting success. However, his path is anything but easy.
When obstacles block his chance to represent England at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, Frankie takes a bold step. He turns to his roots, choosing to compete for St. Vincent. Along the way, he faces the politics of boxing, the weight of his dreams, and his family’s needs.
Through these trials, Frankie’s resilience is tested to the core. His determination leads him to a victory that redefines his career and legacy.
In the end, Frankie’s story explores identity, belonging, and the true meaning of success.
Going for Gold asks what we fight for and what we hold dear. It invites audiences to reflect on family bonds, perseverance, and the legacies we leave behind.
