Dance Umbrella is the London festival that has evolved for 46 years. Each year, it lights up the city and online platforms with bold new artists. Since 1978, the festival has showcased over 1,000 artists from 45 countries, reaching more than a million people. It has brought dance to over 145 venues, from famous stages like Sadler’s Wells and the Southbank Centre to unique spots like canal boats, ice rinks, and rooftops.
In 2020, Dance Umbrella expanded online. Now, audiences can enjoy curated dance films and artist encounters from anywhere. The festival also commissions and co-produces new works, both in the UK and abroad, to support the next generation of choreographers. Additionally, it offers year-round creative learning programs and nurtures arts professionals.
Freddie Opoku-Addaie became Artistic Director/CEO in 2021. His vision focuses on emerging, diverse talent, highlighting the global nature of London. Dance Umbrella 2024 will run from 9-31 October, across London and online.
