A Series of Scarves by Babajide Olatunji
Babajide Olatunji unveils “A Series of Scarves” at Tafeta London from October 4 to November 11, 2023. This art exhibition marks his fourth solo showcase with Tafeta, offering a captivating exploration of black tribe history through art.
Olatunji, a self-taught artist, brings to life hyperrealist portraits inspired by his deep research into facial markings. Born in Okiti Pupa, Nigeria, he has gained recognition for his imaginative portrait paintings, acquired by esteemed private collections worldwide, including the collection of King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
In 2017, Olatunji’s talent was highlighted at the Royal Academy of Arts summer show in London. His works also grace the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Mott-Warsh Collection in Flint, Michigan, and the Bank of England Museum in London. This year, a significant piece from his “History of the Yoruba” series was unveiled at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture & History in Lagos, Nigeria.
