How do you navigate the complexities of shifting relationships?
“When you’ve shared a bond since childhood, Since the tender age of five, And your social circles intertwine, Where everyone knows you as inseparable companions, Kindred spirits.”
Enter Lady, a spirited individual with a penchant for wit, cherishing her close friendship with Gemma akin to her fondness for a late-night snack. As Gemma celebrates her birthday, the reunion marks a six-month gap since their last encounter.
“Cheeky Little Brown,” a production by Nkenna Akunna, recipient of the Papatango Prize (known for “Some of Us Exist in the Future”), unfolds as a reflective journey through the urban landscape, exploring failed escapades, harmonies, and narratives of emotional resilience and nonconformity.
Through melodic compositions, this narrative dissects the evolving dynamic between two women of color, each traversing distinct paths towards self-affirmation and inclusivity.
A presentation by tiata fahodzi, under the direction of Chinonyerem Odimba. Originally co-produced by tiata fahodzi, Bristol Old Vic, and Belgrade Theatre.
