HIP HOP – Living a Dream explores how a lifestyle—shaped by music, graffiti, breakdancing, and fashion—grew into a global movement. It began in 1980s New York. Then, it spread to Los Angeles, the Southern U.S., Europe, and beyond. Today, Hip Hop still shapes culture worldwide.
This exhibition features the work of three renowned photographers: Jamel Shabazz, Joseph Rodriguez, and Gregory Bojorquez. Each artist offers a unique view into the rise and reach of American Hip Hop. Jamel Shabazz captures the early 1980s in New York. His images serve as both personal diary and historical record. They show the energy and pride of a movement in its infancy .Joseph Rodriguez, born in Brooklyn, turns his lens to 1990s East L.A. His series East Side Stories – Gang Life in East L.A. documents the complexities of gang culture. His work reveals both struggle and resilience. Gregory Bojorquez, a Los Angeles native, has photographed Hip Hop legends since the 1990s. His portraits include Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, and more. He captures the faces and spirit of the scene.
