Freedom Rising showcases powerful works by the late Owusu-Ankomah. The exhibition runs from 4 September to 4 October 2025 at October Gallery. It features large-scale paintings created between 2008 and 2014. Each piece blends bold human figures with symbolic patterns. At first, Ankomah drew from African rock art and masquerade. Later, his figures lost their masks and merged with layers of signs. These symbols evolved over time. He began with Akan adinkra, then added global and original glyphs. Through this, he explored freedom—of movement, of identity, of expression. His art speaks visually and spiritually, combining tradition with personal transformation.
