Sweet Thang Zine is a community-driven, independent print platform founded by Zoe Thompson in 2017. It uplifts Black creatives globally, especially women, queer, femme, and non-binary voices. Rooted in Black print culture and feminist punk traditions, it celebrates joy, resistance, and liberation. Each issue explores a theme. For example, Issue 6 focused on healing.
Issue 8 (2025), titled Dreaming as Freedom-making, showcases essays, poetry, fiction, and visual art from 21 Black artists worldwide. It invites readers to reimagine history, self, and future through creative storytelling. The zine remains affordable and DIY, usually priced at £6–£8. It’s funded through grassroots support and crowdfunding. Zoe also runs workshops at spaces like Tate and the National Gallery, deepening zine culture’s reach. Readers love its vibrant design and emotional depth. Issue 8 includes reflections on memory, jazz, and liberation, and was celebrated in a London book club event. It’s bold, beautiful, and deeply community-rooted.
